Welcome to the 16. issue of FESSH HAND OUT, a bimonthly information letter for hand surgeons
Unfortunately this year there will be no physical, face-to-face congress of the FESSH for the first time in 25 years. For the Executive Committee the online event format seems the most rational and fairest solution as it is feasible among uncertain conditions
and it is open and available for all countries with different conditions and regulations.
FESSH On(line) Week will provide excellent educational events in different formats. The centrepiece will be the two full day event on Friday, the 4th and on Saturday, the 5th of September with live surgical cad-lab demonstrations and battles. On the other days
early morning sessions and late night shows offer a great opportunity to combine work and education.
For a minimal fee maximal content is offered.

Meet the FESSH member societies – History of Hand Surgery in Russia
Dr Pirogov, the main surgeon of Sevastopol in the 1850s during Crimean war invented new methods of treatment for wounded soldiers to reduce the amount of radical amputations. Dr Shimanovskiy in 1865 united experience of surgeons from different countries, systematized
and described more than 600 schemes of surgeries in his monograph "Surgeries on the surface of human body". He invented lots of original methods for wound closing for wounds of different forms.
In 2003 the Russian Hand Surgery Society was established and joined FESSH in 2007.
