CONGRATULATIONS FOR FESSH CLINICAL GRANT WINNER
Dr Thorsten Schriever and his team
Department of Handsurgery at Södersjukhuset, Stockholm, Sweden
Dr Thorsten Schriever´s project addresses two common treatment options; lunocapitate fusion versus four-corner fusion, for scaphoid non-union advanced collapse (SNAC) and scapholunate advanced collapse (SLAC) arthritis. It is a well-designed randomized prospective clinical trial which will hopefully give the hand surgery community insights in how to improve the way we treat these relatively common patient groups.
The FESSH Clinical Grant is 10.000 € for the winner.

CONGRATULATIONS FOR FESSH/FOUNDATION FOR HAND SURGERY CLINICAL GRANT WINNERS
Dr Olga Politikou and her team
Clinical Laboratory for Bionic Extremity, Reconstruction, Department of Surgery, Medical University of Vienna, Austria
Dr Olga Politikou's research project "Nerve transfers for cognitive reinnervation of spastic muscles in stroke patients" involves a a highly innovative approach to improve symptom recovery, and improve the possibility for subsequent bionic hand reconstruction in patients with upper motor neuron syndrome after stroke. The project is directed primarily towards investigations of the functional recovery and new volitional control of spastic muscles in upper extremity after cognitive re-innervation with nerve transfers, as well as evaluation of the intuitive myosignals of the newly cognitive re-innervated muscles, in highly selected patients with severe hand deformity, chronic stiffness and poor sensibility.

Radboud University Medical Center, Nijmegen, the Netherlands
Dr Brigitte van Der Heijden's research project "Diagnostic performance of dynamic four-dimensional computed tomography (4D CT) compared to arthroscopy for analyzing scapholunate instability" is directed towards evaluating the diagnostic performance (sensitivity and specificity) of 4D CT scans of the wrist, and the possibilities to utilize 4D CT scans rather than arthroscopy for the diagnosis of functionally relevant scapho-lunate ligament injuries. The hypothesis of the study is that 4D CT scans can be used as a first-choice non-invasive imaging modality to diagnose SLI and to discriminate SLI from other causes of wrist pain. Arthroscopy can then be reserved for those patients with inconclusive 4D CT scans or as a therapeutic procedure.
Both winners received 25.000 € respectively as a support for their projects.

FESSH ACADEMY for the second time
FESSH Academy 2020 held 12-15 February 2020 in Budapest, Hungary was a great success with 150 participants and 13 Faculty members from 29 countries.
95% of the participants evaluated the event by now and 98% of them think that overall the event was "excellent" or "good" and 91% found the information received extremely useful or very useful.

MEET THE FESSH MEMBERS: Turkey
The Turkish Society for Surgery of the Hand and Upper Extremity was founded 1977. Rıdvan Ege was the first President of the society that counted 22 members at that time. Today the society has 250 active members. Turkey is member of FESSH since 2001 and hosted a FESSH Congress in Antalya in 2013.
